SALMON FISHING

As the “Salmon Capital of the World”, Campbell River is a hot spot for salmon fishing.

Year round salmon fishing is common activity on northern Vancouver Island, as salmon can be found in the ocean, rivers and many streams surrounding Campbell River. Of the five species of Pacific Salmon, four can be found here: Chinook, Chum, Coho and Pink are all caught in the surrounding waters.

This diversity helped spawn the Tyee Club of Campbell River and our own Anita Painter is a member!

The Tyee Club of Campbell River fishes in a very distinctive way. Using small wooden row boats, no motors allowed, anglers fish in an area known as the Tyee Pool just north west of downtown Campbell River. To become a member of the exclusive Tyee Club a fisherman must catch a Chinook Salmon weighing over 30 pounds.
